(the) Anglican Communion

(the) Anglican Communion
an organization consisting of the ↑Church of England and other churches in Britain and abroad that have historical links with the Church of England. Its leader is the ↑Archbishop of Canterbury. The ↑Episcopal Church of Scotland, the Church of Ireland, the ↑Church in Wales and the Episcopal Church in the US are all part of the Anglican Communion. There are also a number of large Anglican churches in Africa. There has been disagreement between members of the Anglican community in recent years especially about attitudes to homosexuality and whether women should be priests. Every ten years all the bishops of the Anglican Communion attend the ↑Lambeth Conference.
